SPRINGFIELD — MGM Springfield casino will have a new neighbor soon. A vacant warehouse is slated for demolition to make way for a new $15 million Hilton Hotel franchise to be built across from MGM Springfield casino.
Longmeadow developer Louis Masaschi says this hotel project represents a “great opportunity”. The hotel will be built at 24 Park St., and will consist of 100 rooms occupying five floors.
Masaschi was originally going to build a couple years ago, however the project experienced delays due to a historical preservation city ordinance. Because the original warehouse was over 100 years old, The Springfield Historical Commission got involved and delayed the project nine months. Demolition will take place at the end of this September or early October. Site work and foundation pouring will take place before the New England winter weather arrives.
The new hotel will operate under the name Home2 Suites. It will have a pool and valet parking. The hotel will be able to accommodate many of the guests that are unable to secure reservations on property at MGM Springfield casino resort. The construction phase will last 14-16 months.
The property is owned by Masaschi under JLL Realty Development LLC.
